Original Prusa i3 MK2.5
In 2016 I watched Thomas Sanladerer build and review the new Original Prusa i3 MK2. I ordered one and received mine in late 2016.
The Prusa i3 MK2 has been an excellent printer from the start; superior to the RRP Huxley in almost every way. I have upgraded it with the (first) Multi-Material Upgrade, allowing up to 4 colours or materials per print. The MMU has since been the weakest point of the machine, with material jams and other issues, but the faults rarely occur after the first few layers, meaning there is usually little wasted time and material. I have not made good use of the MMU in individual parts, but being able to have four different filaments pre-loaded does save time and faffing around.
I have changed very little on the machine; I printed a set of anti-vibration feet which quietened the machine drastically. The stock frame mounted spool holder was ditched in favour of my sealed boxes described at the bottom of 3D Printers.
In mid 2018 I ordered the MK2S and the MK2.5 upgrade kits and installed them, removing the MMU for the time being. This has improved the reliability of the machine - I particularly like the removable bed. I opted to wait for a textured, powder coated surface, and I am glad I did so; in my opinion, it is better than the PEI adhesive sheet covered bed of the MK2.
I miss the useful nature of the MMU so the MMU2.0 upgrade kit will be purchased at a later date.
